The weather in Tuscany

The best times to go to Tuscany are late spring and early fall, when the weather is warm (but not too hot), open-air dining is enjoyable, and there are lots of lively art and music festivals. A visit in early fall also brings an opportunity to partake in the region’s many grape and olive harvest festivals.

The Best Time to Visit Tuscany for Good Weather: The best time to visit Tuscany for good weather, with temperatures warm but not too hot and chances for rain fairly minimal, is from mid-April to mid-May. The next best time for weather is mid-September to mid-October, temperatures in early fall are similar to late spring, but there is a greater chance for rain.

To do in Tuscany

Of course, when in Tuscany one must set aside time to journey out to the Tuscan countryside and explore some of their world-famous wineries.  There is nothing better than immersing oneself in one of the elements that Tuscany prides itself on, wine.

Castello De Montegiove

A tiny medieval hamlet packs a dramatic punch with its perfectly preserved castle resting on the crest. Montegiove sits in middle Umbria on a hill near Citta Della Pieve. The Castello di Montegiove is one of the oldest castles in Umbria. The ancient stronghold has its ramparts and crenellations intact. It once belonged to the Counts of Marciano. While the village is small there is a restaurant, a wine bar and a couple of stores.

It falls under the administration of nearby Montegabionne. Just outside Montegiove is the astonishing structure called La Scaruola, an "ideal town" designed by Tomaso Buzzi. Esoteric, whimsical, and eccentric at the same time, it is a sight to see. In the nearby Franciscan church, you'll find a particularly interesting fresco; it is an image of the saint probably painted from life during Francis's sojourn here in 1218 and therefore a realistic likeness of him.

Montegiove sits high at 620 meters above sea level in a tranquil spot. It is near Fabro, Chiusi, Marsciano, and Deruta.

Lake Trasimeno

The expanse of glittering water surrounded by hilly olive groves, rows of vineyards, and thick woods known as Lake Trasimeno is one of the most popular destinations for travelers to the central Italian regions of Umbria and Tuscany. The fourth-largest of Italy's lake, Trasimeno is ringed with tiny Medieval stone villages perched atop promontories jutting into the water. Crumbling towers, stoic fortresses, Renaissance churches, and contemplative abbeys dot the rolling countryside. The lake itself is colored by bright sails and tiny pastel wooden fishing boats, set against the background of three pretty lake islands, and its fiery orange sunsets are known to be some of the most dramatic in Italy.
